Despite the Toyota HiLux being Australia's best-selling vehicle for the past five years – and demand for double-cab utes that has set new sales records – Toyota Australia has stayed mum on any plans to add the sportier variant to its lineup.


The off-road-focused Rugged X and the luxury-focused Rogue are now the Toyota HiLux range's flagships in Australia.

When the Toyota Hilux pick-up truck lands in the UK this summer, a new GR Sport trim level will sit at the top of the line, bringing sharper aesthetics, sportier interior décor, and some mechanical changes.
The Hilux GR Sport was "designed to capture the attention of customers whose active lifestyles go well beyond every day, giving them an ideal vehicle for adventurous journeys and sporting pursuits," according to Toyota. It was inspired by the Japanese firm's Gazoo Racing division, which helped develop the GR Yaris hot hatch and GR Supra sports car.
