 Australian Capital Region (A.C.T.), previously Yass-Canberra, political element of the Province of Australia comprising Canberra, the public and regional capital, and encompassing area.


 The majority of the Australian Capital Region exists in the Southern Tablelands locale of 


New South Ribs in southeastern Australia, yet there is additionally a region of approximately 28 square miles (73 square km) toward the east on the Tasman Ocean coast at Jervis Sound.


 Canberra is situated in the northeastern corner of the region, around 185 miles (300 km) southwest of Sydney, 290 miles (465 km) upper east of Melbourne, and 95 miles (150 km) from the coast. The whole domain lies between scopes 35° and 36° S and expands around 53 miles (85 km) north to south and 33 miles (53 km) east to west.
